There has been a recent rise unregistered food businesses across the Shire, which is a punishable offence.
Before operating a food business, residents need to register or notify their business with the relevant enforcement agency.
This includes temporary food businesses such as a market stall, mobile food vans, home based food businesses and fundraisers.
The organisation you notify or register with depends on where you operate, and what type of business you are operating.
Most food businesses will need to register with the Shire of Ashburton.
By law, a food business must not start operating without registering, otherwise enforcement action, including prosecution, can apply.
