Pannawonica
Our Town
Pannawonica is named for the local Pannawonica Hill (‘The hill that came from the sea’). The 700-strong Pannawonica community was first built in 1970 to house employees of the local iron ore mine.
While Pannawonica is a small mining town, it offers a range of facilities. These include a post office, library, supermarket, tavern and hotel, bank and a service station. There are also a range of recreational facilities available.
Each year, Pannawonica comes alive with the Robe River Rodeo, attracting riders from far and wide. It is the biggest event on Pilbara’s rodeo calendar, with funds raised helping to support the local community.
Living in Pannawonica
Pannawonica Library has a large range of books, DVDs and audiobooks available, with new titles received every month. There are also free weekly storytime and activities available for children, as well as a range of services available.
Located in the town centre, Pannawonica Swimming Centre is a popular destination in summer, and is available for hire for private functions.
Resident facilities can also be found within Pannawonica’s halls and courts, which are available for hire for a range of sporting and community activities.
The Town Sports Oval is the site for many community sporting events and is available for hire.
