Exciting News: Expanded Liquid Waste Capacity and New Drying Pads at the Pilbara Regional Waste Management Facility (PRWMF)!

The Shire of Ashburton is thrilled to announce the completion of new liquid evaporation ponds at the PRWMF, adding a massive 15,000 tonnes of capacity. Conveniently located on the Onslow Road, close to the NW Coastal Highway, this development marks another step forward in our commitment to delivering sustainable and locally driven waste solutions.

Alongside the evaporation ponds, we’ve also developed 7,500 tonnes of drying pad capacity, designed to handle challenging industrial waste streams like drill muds, biosolids, clay and silty sediments and brine waste. This addition provides local industry with a dedicated solution for managing and processing these materials efficiently on-site, supporting industry needs and environmental responsibility.
Supporting Local Industry Needs

These expansions were driven by requests from our valued local stakeholders, reflecting our ongoing collaboration to meet the unique demands of the Pilbara region. By handling both liquid and solid industrial wastes locally, we’re significantly reducing the need for long-distance transfers outside the Shire—a win for local businesses and the environment.

Cost and Environmental Benefits
By keeping waste management close to home, we’re helping industries cut down on transportation costs, reduce CO2 emissions, and lower environmental impact. It’s a solution that makes both economic and ecological sense, furthering our commitment to sustainability and efficient resource use.

This expanded capacity will support local industries now and into the future, fostering a resilient, self-sustaining waste management system in our region. We’re proud to continue advancing projects like these that make a meaningful impact in the Pilbara
