Shire of Ashburton Celebrates 100 Years of Onslow

2025 marks a momentous milestone – a century since Onslow relocated from the original townsite, now known as Old Onslow. The Shire of Ashburton is excited to commemorate this historic occasion with a year-long celebration of events and activities honouring the unique history and vibrant community of Onslow.

Onslow was gazetted on 10 January 1924, after surveyors identified a new location in Beadon Bay in 1923. Everything was moved via camel, horse and wagon to the current location in 1925.

The festivities will kick off on 26 January 2025 with the much-anticipated return of the Australia Day Regatta on the Onslow Foreshore. Following this, on 26 April 2025, a full-day festival will light up the Onslow foreshore, offering a lively and engaging experience for all.

This special event will celebrate 100 years of history, community, and progress, featuring an array of activities and entertainment for all ages. From live music and food stalls to historical displays and interactive exhibits, there will be plenty to see and do. It promises to be a day of fun, reflection, and community spirit – an event not to be missed.

Shire President, Audra Smith, shared her enthusiasm for the 100-Year Celebrations, noting it as a significant time to reflect on Onslow's growth, development and the strong community it has become today.

“It’s a great privilege to celebrate Onslow’s 100-year milestone. This centenary not only marks a century of rich history, resilience and growth, but also honours the spirit of community that makes Onslow unique.

“Together, we acknowledge our past, celebrate the present, and look forward to a vibrant future. I extend my thanks to everyone who has contributed to Onslow’s journey and to those who continue to make it a wonderful place to call home. Here’s to another hundred years of progress, connection and community spirit in Onslow!” stated President Smith.

In addition to the April festival, a variety of activations and events will be held throughout the year, showcasing the rich heritage and dynamic culture of Onslow. These celebrations will offer something for everyone, giving both locals and visitors the chance to experience the unique charm of the township.
