The town of Pannawonica is set to receive a significant boost in recreational facilities following the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 10 December 2024. Council has endorsed the development of a brand-new Bike Park, a Destination Playground, and an upgrade to the outdoor decking at Pannawonica Sports Club. This $3.2 million project will be funded through the Inspire Community Partnership with Rio Tinto.

As a closed town, Pannawonica has not seen a project of this nature before, making this development an entirely new concept for both the Shire and Rio Tinto. The new bike park and destination playground are designed to provide state-of-the-art recreational spaces for families and individuals of all ages, promoting outdoor activity and community engagement. We are grateful for the support from Rio Tinto through the Inspire Community Partnership, which has made this project possible.

“This initiative demonstrates the strong commitment of both Rio Tinto and the Shire to work together in creating a vibrant and active communities,” stated President Smith.
