As the first light of dawn appeared across the Pilbara on Friday 25 April nearly 2,000 residents gathered to commemorate and honour the ANZACs.
Dawn services throughout the region gave tribute to those who gave their lives or served in the military and included contributions from Indigenous Australians and New Zealand.
Onslow residents gathered at the War Memorial, overlooking Front Beach and a magnificent sunrise. Guest speakers spoke with passion and pride and the town’s cadets, ex-serviceman and community members all contributed to the day’s proceedings.
The Dawn Service in Paraburdoo was attended by over 200 residents and included a poem reading by Cadet Cory Nunn, recognising the contribution of Indigenous Australians at war. A street march and Gunfire Breakfast were held following the service.
Tom Price residents commemorated the ANZACs with the Pilbara regiments, beginning with a dawn service at RSL Memorial Park, followed by a street march parade, Gunfire Breakfast and traditional ANZAC day games and barbecue at the B Troop depot.
Pannawonica residents stood in silence at dawn and remembered with a service held at the ANZAC Memorial in Tony Lyons Park, which was followed by a Gunfire Breakfast for all.
Across the region, various ANZAC day activities generously raised thousands of dollars for Legacy.
