Shire of Ashburton Announces Youth Pilot Program for Pannawonica
The Shire of Ashburton is proud to announce the endorsement of a 12-month Youth Services Pilot Program for Pannawonica. This vital initiative, funded through the Inspire Community Partnership, aims to address the unique needs of young people in Pannawonica and enhance their personal, social, and educational development.
Shire President Audra Smith highlighted the importance of this program for the Pannawonica community.
"The launch of this pilot program is a significant step forward in our commitment to supporting the wellbeing of youth in our community. For too long, Pannawonica has lacked formal youth services and this initiative is a testament to our dedication to fostering growth, connection and opportunity for young people in the region,"
The pilot program, to be delivered by the Carey Right Track Foundation, will operate during school terms on an 8:6 roster, offering structured activities and services. The program aligns with the Shire’s key strategic objectives, including:
- Expanding youth-friendly, accessible spaces within Shire facilities.
- Developing youth programs that promote arts, culture, and life skills.
- Supporting initiatives to build mental health awareness and employability skills among youth.
The Shire acknowledges the support of the Inspire Community Partnership and Rio Tinto in making this program possible.
Rio Tinto Managing Director Rail, Port and Core Services, Richard Cohen said, “Pannawonica is home to a vibrant community of young people, and we’re excited to partner with the Shire of Ashburton to deliver a range of new programs and services to support their development.
“The new Youth Services Pilot Program will equip young people with a range of essential life skills as well as promote positive wellbeing and a strong connection to culture, while paving the way for a bright future.”
The initiative also fulfills the Shire’s broader Strategic Community Plan objectives, ensuring coordinated delivery of social services and fostering opportunities for community learning and connection.
The program’s success will be closely monitored through feedback from participants and stakeholders, and the data collected will guide the development of long-term, sustainable youth services for Pannawonica.
