Shire of Ashburton residents are advised to be aware of the risks of wind and flooding from the Tropical Low off the Pilbara and Kimberley coast.

The low is gradually strengthening and may develop into a tropical cyclone during Friday as it tracks southwards and approaches the Pilbara coast. It is not expected to cause GALES in coastal areas on Thursday but GALES may develop on Friday. On the current track, landfall is possible from early Saturday morning through to early Saturday afternoon between Pardoo and Karratha, including near Port Hedland. Heavy rainfall associated with the system is likely to develop over the Pilbara and far western Kimberley from Friday and extend further inland as the system continues to track southwards on Saturday. A Flood Watch has been issued for the Pilbara, see www.bom.gov.au/wa/warnings/ for more details. A BLUE ALERT has been issued for people in, near or between coastal communities from Bidyadanga to Mardie, including the communities of Sandfire, Wallal, Pardoo, Marble Bar, Port Hedland, South Hedland, Pt Samson, Wickham, Roebourne, Karratha, Dampier and Pannawonica. If you are in a BLUE ALERT area, you  need to prepare for cyclonic weather and organise an emergency kit including first aid kit, torch, portable radio, spare batteries, food and water.
